Major Canadian airline WestJet has announced the completion of its Swoop Airlines integration into its central operations.
WestJet decided to merge its low-cost airline with its main business in June 2023.

Swoop, which began flights in June 2018, is recognised as Canada’s first ultra-low-cost carrier (ULCC). When the airline first came into fruition, it advertised base fares 40% lower than WestJet’s premium offering.
WestJet Group CEO Alexis von Hoensbroech has emphasised how the low-cost Swoop will help WestJet operations.
Hoensbroech said: “As the first ULCC to enter the Canadian market, in 2018 Swoop pioneered the no-frills product in Canada and was best-in-class in generating ancillary revenues.”
“By keeping costs low, Swoop was able to offer the most competitive fares and appeal to Canadian travellers of all demographics. As we conclude this integration, we will learn from Swoop’s successes to best serve our guests with diversified product offerings that meet a variety of needs.”

By GlobalDataAccording to WestJet, the low-cost airline will be able to take advantage of its 180-strong fleet, offering both affordable travel and premium inflight services.
This strategy involves condensing seating at the rear area of its 737 aircraft while maintaining a more spacious cabin up front.
The deal allowed Swoop to finish its internal operations, flying its last aircraft on October 28.
