Wellness company XpresSpa Group has signed a contract to open a new Covid-19 pop-up testing facility in the San Francisco International Airport (SFO) in the US.

Scheduled to open in mid-April, the new XpresCheck testing site will be located near the baggage claim area on the Arrivals level at Terminal 3.

The facility will have nine separate testing rooms and will be equipped to administer polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and rapid molecular Covid-19 tests (RT).

XpresSpa CEO Doug Satzman said: “We are thrilled to be leveraging our existing relationship with United Airlines (UA) to bring a new XpresCheck testing facility to the San Francisco International Airport.

“We are pleased to continue to support United’s efforts to provide their customers with testing options to meet their destination entry requirements with our easy rapid molecular testing protocol and convenient on-site testing facilities.

“We believe providing this additional layer of safety will be helpful to passengers and airline employees as demand for travel continues to accelerate throughout 2021.”

The site is expected to conduct more than 500 tests a day.

Airport director Ivar C. Satero said: “We welcome the addition of an XpresCheck Covid-19 pop-Up testing facility at SFO.

“As the first airport in the US to launch an onsite rapid testing capability, we understand the importance of giving travellers convenient on-airport testing options. We thank both United Airlines and the XpresSpa Group for bringing this concept to SFO.”

Through its subsidiary XpresTest, XpresSpa Group offers Covid-19 screening and testing services under the XpresCheck brand.

Last month, the company opened two XpresCheck Covid-19 testing centres at Dulles International Airport (IAD) and Reagan National Airport (DCA) in the US in collaboration with the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA).
