France-based Worldwide Flight Services (WFS) has unveiled a new cargo handling terminal at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (H-JAIA) in the US.
The company also secured a 20-year lease to handle the airport’s new 100,000ft² Cargo Building C.

The new building, which offers facilities for both cargo and freighter handling, features 11 dock doors, a container bypass system and drive-up ramp access.
The cargo handling centre has several charging points for ‘active’ temperature-controlled containers, allowing WFS to provide services for temperature-sensitive shipments.
It is equipped with numerous security features such as CCTV technologies and access control systems.
The facility has an adjacent ramp area, which can accommodate two freighter aircraft.

By GlobalDataFurthermore, the building’s warehouse has the equipment, including forklifts, three large weighing scales and ground services equipment for complete aircraft handling.
The facility has also incorporated sustainable solutions such as low energy warehouse and office lighting systems and large fans.
These fans will cool the warehouse in the summer and produce warm air circulation during winters, reducing the overall energy consumption.
WFS Americas executive vice-president Mike Simpson said: “We were extremely proud to be awarded the opportunity to operate Cargo Building C and to now be opening the first new cargo terminal at H-JAIA in more than 30 years.”

Last week, WFS signed ground handling contracts with 12 airlines in North America as the aviation sector’s rebound from the pandemic accelerates.
All the contracts have a duration of three years.
