French airport operator VINCI Airports has announced that the majority of work under the first phase of the project to modernise Salvador International Airport in Bahia, Brazil, has been concluded.
Construction on the first phase of the project started in April last year. With less than 100 days to the target date set by the Concession Agreement, up to 85% of the work has been completed.

VINCI Énergies subsidiary Actemium has been awarded a contract to carry out the work in two phases.
It was decided that the first phase of Salvador Bahia Airport’s transformation and expansion works will be completed by 31 October 2019.
The work includes the expansion of the passenger terminal, construction of a new pier, the installation of a new baggage handling system, and new client services, including free and high-speed Wi-Fi.
Additionally, the first phase of work involves the installation of a solar plant, implementation of a new solid waste plant and reuse water system or LED re-lamping in all newly modernised areas.

VINCI Airports said that some works are currently underway, including the expansion of the passenger terminal by 22,000m², the modernisation of restrooms and changing rooms, and the installation of new baggage handling and security control systems.
The aircraft apron area is also being expanded while requalification of the main track (10/28) is being carried out. The construction of a new pier equipped with six new boarding bridges is also under progress.
Located 24km away from the city of Salvador, Bahia, the airport handled around 7.7 million passengers in 2017, making it the tenth busiest airport in the country.
Vinci Airports is operating the airport under a 30-year concession agreement signed with Brazil’s National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) in July 2017. The concession covers the operation, maintenance, redevelopment, and expansion of the airport.
Vinci Airports plans to invest approximately R$2.31bn ($731.05m) on the airport redevelopment in multiple phases over the concession period. The investment planned for the first phase of the redevelopment is R$600m ($172.12m).
