The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has transitioned its security operations to a new and spacious terminal, with the first phase of The New SLC Airport open to travellers.
The New SLC Airport has a single, centralised security checkpoint that is outfitted with automated screening lanes (ASLs) that help travellers to simultaneously place their items in bins for screening.

These bins will be moved by the conveyor belts into the X-ray machine tunnel and automatically return to the front of the security checkpoint.
ASL bins are said to be 25% larger compared to a typical bin and can hold a roll-aboard suitcase.
A unique radio frequency identification tag that comes with each bin allows for additional accountability of a traveller’s carry-on property.
Cameras integrated into the bins are capable of capturing images of the contents of each bin. They are linked side-by-side to the X-ray image of the contents of the carry-on bag.

By GlobalDataIn addition, the security checkpoint features eight advanced imaging technology body scanners, nine walk-through metal detectors and explosive detection equipment.
Alongside general screening lanes, TSA PreCheck screening is available. The security checkpoint offers 16 lanes at full capacity.
TSA Utah federal security director Mark Lewis said: “TSA worked closely with the Salt Lake City Department of Airports for the past several years to design TSA work areas within The New SLC to ensure optimal space for our employees to carry out the security mission.
“As a result, TSA will see improved efficiency in all our operations. Travellers departing The New SLC can expect to see new equipment and state-of-the art technology.”
Last month, employees of TSA participated in two simulations to preview and prepare for operations in the new airport.
