Thailand has increased thermal health screening at its international airports for patients who may have been infected with coronavirus.

The epidemic began in Wuhan, China, and has so far killed 492 and infected 24,527 people. Thailand has 25 confirmed cases of the infection, with no deaths so far.

The Suvarnabhumi, Don Mueang, Chiang Mai, Phuket and Krabi airports have boosted hygiene measures with extra cleaning, disinfection and the provision of hand sanitiser.

At entry points from immigration authorities, all passengers arriving at Thailand will receive health beware cards in English, Thai and Chinese.

The country’s Department of Airports (DOA) has started using thermal scans and thermometers at all of its airports, which includes nine airports in the north, nine in the northeast and ten in the south.

The U-Tapao Rayong-Pattaya International Airport, which is managed by the Royal Thai Navy, has also implemented thermal scanning and has set up a team of standby doctors in a bid to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Regional airline Bangkok Airways also adopted hygiene measures at Samui Airport, in addition to Sukhothai and Trat airports.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) has released updates and recommendations to prevent the spread of the virus to air operators.

These recommendations include measures to help air passengers safeguard themselves from the infection.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has stated that its offices around the world would help ‘those people wanting any information updates on the 2019-nCov situation in Thailand’.

Earlier this week, around 300 Chinese passengers were stranded at airports in the Philippines after the Philippines Government restricted travel to and from China, Hong Kong and Macau.

Recently, the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced new rules regarding aircraft arrivals from China.
