Saab’s Advanced-Surface Movement Guidance and Control System (A-SMGCS) is now operating at the Juanda International Airport in Surabaya, Indonesia.

According to the Swedish defence and security company, the A-SMGCS is a standards compliant system which offers surveillance of airport runways, taxiways, stands and on approach.

Saab Industrial Products and Services, Air Traffic Management business unit head Mike Gerry said: “We at Saab are pleased to be working with our partners in Indonesia to improve safety through advanced air traffic management tools such as the Saab A-SMGCS.”

Saab’s A-SMGCS delivers accurate situational awareness and advanced safety nets capabilities in a bid to enhance safety and efficiency at many of the busiest airports in the world.

The system features a surface multilateration system, vehicle locators (VeeLo), fusion processing, safety alerts and controller working positions.

It can be delivered as a stand-alone solution and also includes Saab’s advanced multilateration ground station, the RU7, as well as a modern processing system that generates a complete situational awareness picture for controllers.

A-SMGCS also features a Controller Working Position (CWP) that displays an integrated ground/air traffic picture and customises the information that is presented based on roles and areas of responsibility, thereby helping to decrease a controller’s workload.

Saab’s A-SMGCS includes all the expected functional elements of a high-end A-SMGCS system, such as HMI, surveillance, safety nets, routing, and guidance, as defined by ICAO, Eurocontrol and EUROCAE.
