The scope of the contract includes the development and delivery of concept design for the 34,000m² arrivals terminal, in addition to the expansion of the check-in, security and retail areas. It will also include a new airside coaching facility, aircraft stands, taxiway infrastructure and car parking facilities.

“This investment will transform the experience for millions of passengers and help unlock Stansted’s spare runway capacity.”

Stansted transformation programme delivery director Paul Willis said: “Pascall+Watson has already played a key role in the Stansted Transformation Programme, so we’re delighted to announce that it has been appointed to develop the design for phases two and three.

“Over the next five years, we’re investing £600m in Stansted, which will see the biggest upgrade in passenger facilities at the airport since the terminal opened in 1991.

“This investment will transform the experience for millions of passengers and help unlock Stansted’s spare runway capacity, providing passengers with a wider choice of airlines and destinations.”

Pascall+Watson noted that the existing arrivals and departures building will be modified into a departures-only terminal.

The concept for the arrivals terminal will feature a floating modular sky-lit roof above a double height space. The terminal will include an enhanced immigration and baggage reclaim area, a spacious arrivals concourse and a public forecourt.

Pascall+Watson has been working with Stansted for about 30 years and completed various schemes of different sizes and complexity.
