Park Air Systems, the air traffic communications subsidiary of Northrop Grumman, and Vitrociset, a subsidiary of Leonardo, have won a radio replacement contract from Italian air navigation services provider ENAV.

Under the contract, Park Air Systems and Vitrociset will change ground-to-air communications equipment for 46 airports and the supporting en-route infrastructure.

To conform to the 8.33kHz channel spacing, contractors will update existing products using Park Air T6 radio and other products from the Sapphire portfolio.

The augmentation of the radio system will also include transition to Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP).

For the project, Park Air will supply various equipment comprising both UHF and VHF T6 radios, antennas and remote control monitoring systems, alongside customer acceptance testing and product training.

Vitrociset will provide in-territory services and on-going maintenance support.
