Zürich International Airport will analyse the reduction behind medium aircraft in low-visibility operations with the help of Airbus ProSky as it aims to improve its efficiency during adverse weather conditions.
With Airbus ProSky, Zürich Airport will be able to model its environment with a high level of accuracy and the geometry of disturbances on the ILS signal in 3D.

The study is aimed at making state-of-the-art simulations and comparing them with the ICAO standard tolerances which will help in improving capacity in low visibility conditions and match future GBAS CAT III standards, outsmarting the current standards.
Zürich Airport head of flight operations engineering Jann Döbelin was quoted by Airport World as saying: "Airbus ProSky is the recognised leader on ILS interference study and their ELISE software allows them to make predictions that have been proven reliable and close to reality."
With the aim of optimising the aircraft separation in CAT III operations, the airport has invested in 32 elements ILS antenna and is also developing optimised concepts of operations.
The airport currently handles 260,000 movements every year and is trying to improve its CAT III operations by reducing spacing behind medium-sized aircrafts which lead to more than 75% of its traffic.
