A subsidiary of Vinci Concessions, Vinci Airports, has completed an expansion of two Cambodian airports, Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, costing more than $100m.

The two airport expansions have been officially inaugurated by the Prime Minister of Cambodia, Hun Sen, at a ceremony held at Phnom Penh International Airport.

The expansions have nearly doubled the airports’ combined passenger capacity, which has increased to 10 million every year.

The projects were planned to handle the rising passenger numbers in Cambodia, which saw a 13% growth in passenger traffic last year.

Design and construction for the projects was carried out by a consortium, led by Vinci Construction Grands Projets, over a period of four years and six months.

The international terminals commenced operations in late 2015. The airports remained operational throughout the work.

The new Phnom Penh and Siem Reap airports cover a surface area of 31,000m and 26,000m2, respectively.

The terminals feature additional immigration counters, upgraded baggage conveyor systems and check-in desks.

In addition, the airports have installed X-ray scanners and an ultra-sophisticated system for detecting and neutralising explosive devices in baggage.

The airport expansion contracts were signed in November 2013.

Operating in Cambodia since 1995, Vinci Airports works under a public-private partnership with the country’s government.
