Capita subsidiary Updata has secured a contract from NATS, the UK air navigation service provider (ANSP), to provide network connectivity to air traffic control (ATC) services of the country.

Under the terms of the deal, the company will deliver critical national infrastructure through wide area network (WAN) connectivity to support NATS’ new internet protocol (IP)-based voice services being integrated across UK airways.

Valued at £15m, the contract will continue for a period of seven years with a three year option to extend.

The IT infrastructure supports NATS’ commitment towards the Single European Sky air traffic management (ATM) Research programme (SESAR), which focuses on developing technologies to improve airspace performance across Europe.

The infrastructure will help enhance capacity, improve safety, reduce delays and airline costs, and decrease environmental impacts.

NATS Supply Chain Management director Tim Bullock said: “NATS is undertaking a transformational business change, creating a single operational and technology platform, working with partners that can effectively support the business.”

The project is scheduled to go live in 2020.
