Ukraine is planning to launch the Ukrainian rocket Cyclone-4 from the Brazilian Alcantara space centre in 2013.

The total project cost is estimated at $488m, out of which Ukraine has already invested over $130m, according to O Globo.

Brazil will be responsible for the construction of the launch base, while Ukrainian scientists are currently working on the carrier rockets.

Cyclone-4 is a three-stage expendable launch system.

The location of the launching platform will offer a 20% cost advantage due to its proximity to the equator (2°17’S 44°23’W).
