The UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has asked light air sports enthusiasts, including drone enthusiasts, to fly their aircraft only in accredited clubs approved by the authority to address safety and security issues.
According to news agency Wam, the initiative is a part of a new campaign planned by the GCAA to increase awareness on light air sports.

Under a joint effort, the Air Support Department at the Directorate General of Security Support at the General Secretariat of the Office of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior started the campaign, which will continue for two weeks.
GCAA director general Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi said: "It is not merely a flying game, but a sport that requires mental focus and accuracy to enable users to harmonise mental commands and hand movements to fly their drone."
Al Suwaidi requested drone owners who expect to fly drones, to undergo basic and proper training and practice programmes.
The GCAA also warned drone hobbyists against equipping their vehicles with laser devices, cameras and other projection devices.

Citing security and safety reasons, the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) started an online registration process for commercial drone owners and enthusiasts.
Approximately 300,000 drone owners have currently registered their small unmanned aircraft with the FAA.
