Airports of Thailand (AoT) has postponed the THB62.5bn ($1.94bn) Phase II development of Suvarnabhumi Airport and has given the go-ahead for the construction of a new passenger terminal.
The second-phase development is being reviewed by the National Council for Peace and Order’s state budget monitoring and scrutinising committee, who had earlier asked AoT to look at other options.

Detailed plans for the new terminal will be complete by next month and submitted to the board for consideration. This new investment plan is estimated to cost approximately THB24bn.
The new terminal will be located north of Concourse A and will be able to accommodate 60 million passengers, an increase from the current 45 million travellers every year. The work on the terminal is expected to begin in 2015.
The proposal for a third reserve runway is also under consideration by the board.
The airport is also considering the renewal of a check-in system contract with Samart affiliate ComTech for an additional five years, which will extend it to 30 September 2019.
