Bag drop service will initially be available for passengers flying with Asiana Airlines and Korean Air and will be offered to those who have checked-in online or at a CUSS kiosk.

"We can strengthen our position of ‘smart airport’ by enhancing our operational efficiency, providing passengers a fast and unique service."

With the new technology, the passengers can scan their boarding pass and attach the bag tag to the baggage themselves after which the bag will be measured, weighed, scanned and transported automatically to the baggage handling system.

Incheon International Airport Company (IIAC) operation division vice-president Seong-kag Hong said: "By introducing South Korea’s first Self Bag Drop service, we complete a fully automated departure process that includes self check-in, Self Bag Drop and auto immigration gates.

The airport has installed the system in a housing with glass front door and fully automated scanners to ensure safe and easy baggage drop-off.

The locally-provided housing is a hybrid solution that enables the desk to be used in either automated Self Bag Drop mode or in the legacy manual mode.

The airport has carried out the self bag drop project in partnership with SK Telecom, G-antech and Type22.

The Self Bag Drop from Type22 is installed at more than 15 airports worldwide.
