Global IT provider SITA has deployed its passenger processing system for Cross Border Xpress (CBX), the first bridge directly linking a US facility with the Tijuana International Airport (TIJ) terminal in Mexico.

Partnered by the operator of TIJ, Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacifico (GAP), the new project develops the first bi-national airport passenger terminal in the Americas.

GAP allows US passengers to access more than 30 destinations offered by TIJ, including direct flights to Shanghai, many of which are not operated by other Southern Californian airports.

The CBX is an enclosed pedestrian skywalk bridge that runs between San Diego, US, and Tijuana, Mexico, and serves around 2.4 million passengers.

"SITA’s common-use self-service kiosks and work stations make it easy for us to welcome new international airlines to this great facility."

The bridge allows TIJ passengers to cross the US border, thereby avoiding delays at the San Ysidro and Otay Mesa ports of entry.

SITA’s AirportConnect Kiosks and work stations allow passengers travelling to and from TIJ to check-in at CBX.
