Air Navigation Services of the Czech Republic (ANS CR) has contracted Saab to install an SR-3 surface movement radar (SMR) at Vaclav Havel Airport in Prague, Czech Republic.

Incorporated into the airport’s Advanced Surface Movement Guidance & Control Systems (A-SMGCS), the radar will facilitate the detection of non-cooperative targets or obstacles, such as ground vehicles and aircraft.

The SR-3 SMR provides critical situational awareness and safety in all weather conditions.

It uses an open architecture design with industry-standard interfaces for easy integration into air traffic control systems.

The radar is designed to work in compliance with EUROCAE ED-116 and EUROCAE ED-87B standards for A-SMGCS levels one, two and three.

Saab Traffic Management business unit head Anders Carp said: "Saab’s SR-3 is a low-risk solution for airports like Prague that need to replace an aging radar, or for airports looking to augment coverage or deploy a Surface Movement Radar for the first time.

The SR-3 radar is equipped with advanced signal processing, 16-level frequency diversity, and sophisticated processing that removes multi-path targets.

Earlier this week, Saab secured two more orders from Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects (DAEP).

Under the deal, the company are to install a wide area multilateration (WAM) system at Dubai International Airport and a surface multilateration system at Al Maktoum Airport.
