Orlando Airport's kiosks

Orlando International Airport (MCO) has become the first airport in the US to introduce innovative biometric kiosks for passengers arriving from Visa Waiver Countries, a move which expedites the arrival experience for travelers.

The kiosks, which are now operational, process international passengers who hold Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) approval prior to travel.

Using the new kiosks, passengers from international flights can complete their customs declaration form on touch-screens, have passports read and fingerprints and facial images captured.

The new passenger-friendly system adopts a ‘land, touch, go concept that improves the arrival experience, according to the airport authorities.

Greater Orlando Aviation Authority (GOAA) chairman Frank Kruppenbacher said, "This continues our Board and staff’s commitment to positioning Orlando International as a world-class airport in customer service.

"Reducing the times for arrival processing enhances the customer’s Orlando experience and makes Orlando an even more attractive global destination."

GOAA executive director Phil Brown said: "This has been a collaborative effort with Customs and Border Protection (CBP), SITA and Vision-Box.

"It introduces innovative technologies to meet a real world need."

The airport has non-stop international service to 34 destinations, and its international traffic increased 4.9% for the rolling 12 months.

The Visa Waiver Program (VWP) is an initiative of the United States Government which allows citizens of specific countries to travel to the US for tourism, business, or while in transit for up to 90 days without having to obtain a visa.
