McKinney National Airport in the US will get a new 18,000ft² transient hangar, after receiving a $1.5m project grant from the McKinney Community Development Corporation (MCDC).

The new hangar will be used to house aircraft of all sizes, ranging from small single-engine aircrafts to the bigger jet aircraft. It will also be able to accommodate high-performance business aircraft for long or short-term stays.

The airport is aiming at completing the construction in a year’s time.

"This hangar will provide customers with the service they expect and deserve when they come to McKinney."

McKinney deputy city manager Jose Madrigal said: "This addition will help attract additional general aviation, corporate and other customers at McKinney National Airport.

"This hangar will provide customers with the service they expect and deserve when they come to McKinney."

The airport said that the new hangar will help in its development and provide an additional economic development tool for the city.

MCDC board chair George Fuller said: "The city of McKinney and McKinney National Airport requested funding to construct a transient hangar to further business development in McKinney. The airport is an economic driver in McKinney and we are committed to supporting economic growth in our community."

This grant was a part of the regular grant cycle, in which MCDC funds projects that help to enhance the quality of life and support business development in McKinney.

The airport will also receive a significant portion of a 53,750ft² hangar and office facility on lease by Monarch Air. This hangar will provide services such as aircraft maintenance, flight training, charter service, fleet management, acquisitions and sales for the private sector.
