Measurement equipment manufacturer Lufft has officially launched its first visibility sensor, VS20k, designed for airport monitoring and meteorological applications.
The first Lufft visibility sensor on the market that can measure up to 20km, the VS20k is an addition to the company’s existing VS2k visibility sensor with a range of 2km.

The new VS20k equipment has been developed to address airport demands for sensors with a particularly large measuring range.
Lufft’s VS20k technology is suitable for measuring reduced visibility, which can be caused by air saturated with water particles, fine dust or sand, and leads to several air traffic accidents.
Both the VS2k and VS20k sensors detect visibility by using measuring reflectance in line with the 45° forward scattering principle and provide updated results every minute.
The two Lufft visibility sensors help to enhance air traffic safety and highlight poor visibility conditions.

By GlobalDataBased on the same measuring technique and with low maintenance costs, the sensors only differ in terms of certain hardware and firmware components.
They are integrated with an intelligent self-monitoring function that helps detect and report dirt on the lens, and enable automatic zero-point calibration to reduce maintenance intervals.
The company provides a suitable calibration kit for further on-site measurements.
The Lufft UMB visibility sensors can connect with the measurement network through RS485 half duplex two-wire and SDI-12 interface.
