A call made to Mississippi’s Jackson Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport in the US about a bomb in an inbound plane turned out to be a false alarm.

The airport police dispatch received a call that said that a bomb had been placed in an inbound aircraft. After landing, the aircraft was taken to a remote location away from the terminal building and swept by K9 units provided by the FBI.

However, no threat device was found in the search and the airport has resumed normal operations.

"We searched the area with the priority on the aircraft first, because that’s where the initial threat came from."

World Now quoted Jackson Municipal Airport Authority interim CEO Bonnie Wilson as saying: "The individual on the call suggested that there was an explosive device on the aircraft destined for Jackson. Later in the call, he also recommended that there was a possible bomb threat in our parking garage and in the terminal itself."

"We searched the area with the priority on the aircraft first, because that’s where the initial threat came from. As we got further information from the caller, we expanded that search."

Following the call, several law enforcement units, including the FBI, the US Transportation Security Administration, the national transportation safety board, the Jackson police department, the Flowood police department, the Pearl police department and the Rankin County sheriff’s office responded to the situation.
