The new airport's Air Traffic Control Tower and technical building has been granted the award by Chicago Athenaeum: European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.
IGA Airports Construction CEO Yusuf Akçayoglu said: “We are very pleased to see Istanbul New Airport’s Air Traffic Control Tower receive the highly prestigious International Architecture Award 2016.
"The tower’s design, evocative of aerodynamic shapes, has been inspired by the tulip, which is among the symbols of Turkey’s history and Istanbul’s rich cultural legacy.

Pininfarina and AECOM were chosen for the design of the tower after a contest was organised by IGA in 2015.
The Air Traffic Control Tower and Technical Building has been selected by a jury comprising Italian architects and critics from a shortlist of 370 projects worldwide.
The award will be given to the airport on 23 September in Athens.
