Flights at India’s Sheikh ul Alam international airport in Kashmir resumed after being suspended for a day following an accident involving an Air India aircraft.
Flight AI 821, flying in from Jammu with 149 people on board, had a tyre burst while landing at the airport on Monday. The incident was reportedly caused by a brake malfunction.
The Times of India quoted an unidentified source as saying: "On touching down, the Srinagar air traffic control tower informed the pilot that the tyres of his Airbus A-320 (VT-ESE) had smoke and fire.
"The plane was then stopped on the runway itself. All passengers were immediately evacuated using emergency chutes as no one knew how serious the fire warning was."
A statement by the airlines said that everybody on the flight was safe.
Operations at the airport had to be suspended as the aircraft got stuck in the middle of the runway, causing damages to it.
