US engineering firm Hill International has secured a contract to manage the terminal renovations at Cairo International Airport in Egypt.

The upgrades forms a part of a $500m project that includes the renovation of the existing terminal building, as well as the construction of a new departure hall and airside pier.

Hill International senior vice-president Waleed Abdel Fattah said: "This project will have a very positive impact on business, tourism and the overall economy."

Under the $1.9m contract, the company will provide project management consultancy services associated with the renovation and development of Terminal 2 at Cairo International Airport over the next 15 months.

Works under the renovation includes the upgrade and extension of the airside and landside pavements.

When the improvements are complete, Terminal 2 will have an increased annual capacity of approximately 7.5 million passengers.

In May, Hill was awarded two contracts to offer airport management services at San Francisco International Airport in the US.

The contracts were awarded by the City and County of San Francisco Airport Commission and have a combined value of approximately $6.4m to Hill International.
