US-based carrier Hawaii Island Air (Island Air) has entered a five-year smart parts agreement with Bombardier to receive component support for its fleet of Q400 aircraft.
As part of the deal, Bombardier will provide component maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services, as well as on-site inventories at Island Air’s base hub in Honolulu.

The deal has also enabled the airline to have access to a spare part exchange pool of Bombardier.
Hawaii Island Air CEO and president David Uchiyama said: “When you add a new aircraft to your fleet, you want to be confident of excellent and guaranteed in-service support from the manufacturer.
“Bombardier has provided invaluable assistance in helping us acquire Q400 aircraft and integrate them into our fleet.
“The Smart Parts programme will continue to ensure prompt, comprehensive and cost-effective support, which in turn will allow us to provide the best possible interisland travel experience for our customers.”

By GlobalDataThe airline currently operates a new Bombardier Q400 aircraft on lease from Ireland’s Elix Aviation Capital (Elix).
Bombardier Commercial Aircraft customer services vice-president and general manager Todd Young said: “With the Smart Parts programme, Island Air will benefit from superior parts availability and cost predictability as the airline renews its fleet with Q400 aircraft to expand its regional route network and enhance inter-island connectivity.”
The company has so far enrolled around 150 aircraft, operated by Q400 and C Series aircraft customers, under its Smart Parts programme.
