The FIRE-RS project aims to provide an effective tool that helps in early detection and characterisation of natural disasters, with initial focus on wildland fires within the Sudoe territory (France, Spain, and Portugal regions).

"This application is yet another important step in the expanding use of nanosatellites for new services."

Through a combination of a nanosatellite, autonomous UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles) and a simulation and assessment software tool, it will be able to offer a complete fire assessment to the firefighting brigades.

GomSpace CEO Niels Buus said: "GomSpace is happy to collaborate with the University of Vigo, a world-renowned institution in the field of nanosatellites. This application is yet another important step in the expanding use of nanosatellites for new services."
