Numerous flights have been cancelled at Germany’s Hamburg, Stuttgart and Hanover airports as security personnel have gone on strike to increase pressure for a rise in pay.
German trade union Verdi called security personnel from the three airports to demand an increase in wages of between $0-79 and $2.83 an hour, Reuters reported.

The strike has led to the cancellation of 18 Lufthansa domestic flights.
Hamburg Airport said that the significant delays at security checkpoints due to the strike will have an impact on its passengers.
As reported in Deutsche Welle, security workers who are on strike in all the three airports process approximately 80,000 passengers on an average day.
All entrances to both terminals at Hamburg Airport were temporarily closed by the police as crowd increased at security check points due to a shortage in personnel.

"We have surpassed our capacity limits."
Stuttgart Airport has also anticipated security check delays despite appointing additional workers. However, Hanover Airport was said to be less affected by the strike when compared with the other two.
The security guards at military bases or nuclear power facilities were also called to go on strike.
