The Fredericton International Airport Authority (FIAA) is collaborating with the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) to add a second line at the airport's security checkpoint.

According to a statement, the installation of a second line will help reduce wait times at the terminal, which is currently operating 75% beyond capacity.

FIAA president and CEO Johanne Gallant said: “CATSA have done a tremendous job of improving efficiency without sacrificing safety, and we appreciate their partnership in working with us to implement these improvements.”

The latest addition will enable passengers to be screened quickly and reduce queing, but the departures lounge will need to be reconfigured for the additional equipment, according to FIAA.

In order to accommodate relocated seating, amenities such as the business centre will also be eliminated.

"CATSA have done a tremendous job of improving efficiency without sacrificing safety, and we appreciate their partnership in working with us to implement these improvements."

FIAA said that space for a second security line is being created as part of its terminal expansion and renovation plans.
