The new study will pave the way to change or adjust new performance-based navigation (PBN) procedures at the airport.

“It's not going to address all the issues raised, but it's a very important step forward."

FAA said that the PBN procedures, including area navigation (RNAV), help to reduce fuel consumption and emissions, as well as improve safety and efficiency at the airport.

The PBN’s more precise navigation has led to more aeroplanes being concentrated into narrower flight paths, which has caused persistent noise in areas near the airport.

Massachusetts Port Authority CEO Thomas Glynn was quoted by Fox25 as saying: “This is not a panacea.

The study is expected to be completed within a year.
