Dusseldorf Airport

PSI Logistics, a subsidiary of PSI, has secured an order from Danish company Crisplant, a BEUMER Group subsidiary, to deliver its PSIairport/baggage handling system (BHS) as well as the required hardware to Dusseldorf International Airport in Germany.

After installation Dusseldorf Airport will be able to control the new baggage handling system connecting terminals A, B and C. The individual terminal units will have two sorting systems that will be linked by various baggage elevators and underground transport in the apron area.

The Crisplant order also comprises the supply of the networks, all the mobile-end devices and the server and PCs to facilitate secure computer centre operations.

The software conversion which is divided into nine phases will begin at the end of 2012 and the complete system is expected to be operational by the end of 2014.

Dusseldorf International Airport, which is operated by Flughafen Düsseldorf can handle 22 million passengers per year.

The airport served 20.3 million passengers in 2011 and has reported 21,671 take-offs and landings in the same year.

The airport has three runways, including the 3,000m runway south which is the main runway, 2,700m runway north, which is a parallel runway and the temporarily closed 1,630m crosswind runway.

A similar system has been installed at the new Willy Brandt Airport in Berlin.
