Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport in the US is planning to expand customer parking at the commercial terminal, a move that comes in response to the increasing passenger boardings.

An existing hangar will be demolished to make way for additional parking space. The airport currently has 1,400 parking spaces.

Upon completion of the expansion, the terminal will have close to 300 additional parking spaces.

"Our goal is to create a better overall parking experience for our customers this year."

Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport president Terry Hart was quoted by The Chattanoogan as saying: "We have seen a steady increase in customers parking in our lots over the last few years and have reached the point where an expansion is critical.

"We have reviewed all options for parking expansion and removing Hangar 3 makes the most sense as it is located adjacent to the existing intermediate parking lot and requires a tremendous amount of maintenance in its present condition."

The airport also plans to replace all existing parking revenue control equipment this year.

In January, the Airport Authority Board approved the new system to be installed in the airport’s parking area.

"In addition to the new parking lot, customers will see several changes to the existing parking lots including covered walkways and more reliable payment equipment at the exit gates, including a mobile payment option," added Hart.

"Our goal is to create a better overall parking experience for our customers this year."

Construction is expected to begin shortly, with the entire project anticipated to be completed by late 2015.
