The Civil Air Navigation Services Organisation (CANSO) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the European Organisation for Civil Aviation Equipment (EUROCAE) to jointly develop aviation industry standards.
Under the terms of the deal, the two organisations will primarily focus on improving standards for air traffic management (ATM) and will address major issues, such as cyber-security and the safe integration of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) in all types of airspace.

In addition, the collaboration will enable CANSO and EUROCAE to speed-up the implementation of new technologies that would ensure safe, seamless and efficient aviation across Europe.
As part of the cooperation, the parties will exchange information, share expertise and best practices, as well as participate in working groups on issues such as cybersecurity, UASs, system-wide information management (SWIM) and performance-based navigation (PBN).
In July, CANSO joined EUROCAE as a full member.
Both organisations focus on improving aviation operations and promoting strong cooperation in developing industry standards to support global and regional interoperability of ATM systems.

“EUROCAE standards are essential enablers to achieve an efficient, connected and sustainable aviation industry.
“The MoU between EUROCAE and CANSO will ensure collaboration to develop and drive new standards.
“This initiative shows the commitment of CANSO to transform global ATM performance; address the challenges of safe integration of UAS and cyber-security; and speed up the implementation of new technologies to ensure safe, seamless and efficient aviation in Europe and beyond.”
CANSO will join the EUROCAE working group on Aeronautical Systems Security and UAS.
The working group will provide aeronautical system security guidelines, specify security objectives, and address airborne systems and their interface with ground systems.
