Ireland-based CDB Aviation Lease Finance (CDB Aviation) has placed an order with Boeing to purchase 30 new 737 MAX 8 aircraft for $3.3bn at current list prices.

Currently under development, the 737 MAX 8 aircraft type will consume 14% less fuel than the existing 737 aircraft and provide 20% improved services than the original next-generation 737s when they first entered service.

Last week, the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certified the aircraft type for commercial service.

CDB Aviation president and CEO Peter Chang said: “Our commitment to our customers is to provide them with the most efficient and reliable products.

“The 30 Boeing 737 MAXs in our portfolio provide the competitive advantages of fuel-efficiency, reliability and passenger experience they are looking for in the single-aisle airplane.”

The Irish subsidiary of China Development Bank Financial Leasing, the company has a fleet of more than 200 aircraft in its portfolio.

Boeing Commercial Airplanes North-East Asia sales vice-president Rick Anderson said: “As we work together with the new management team at CDB Aviation to address the opportunities presented in a rapidly growing market for commercial airplanes, we look forward to strengthening and growing our partnership in the very near future.”

The company has so far secured more than 3,600 orders from 83 customers for its 737 MAX family of aircraft.
