Boeing has finalised a $550m order for five 737 8 MAX airplanes with Czech airline company Travel Service, which operates under the SmartWings brand.

In 2013, Travel Service placed an order with Boeing for three 737 MAXs at the Paris Air Show. It currently operates a mixed fleet that includes 32 737s.

Travel Service chief executive officer Roman Vik said: "We are pleased to add more 737 MAXs to our original order and we look forward to receiving the first one to become the first airline to operate the 737 MAX in this region."

The 737 MAX features latest technology CFM International LEAP-1B engines, as well as Advanced Technology winglets to deliver efficient, reliable and passenger comfort in the single-aisle market.

The company claims that its 737 MAX is 14% more fuel-efficient in comparison to the Next-Generation 737s and 20% better than the original Next-Generation 737s when they first entered service.

Boeing Commercial Airplanes European sales vice-president Monty Oliver said: “This airplane will be a great addition to its fleet providing the airline with unmatched fuel efficiency and its passengers with superior comfort.”
