Boeing has signed an agreement to acquire fuel-efficiency management and analytics software provider ETS Aviation for an undisclosed amount.

ETS Aviation provides more than 120 airlines and corporate flight departments with the tools required for monitoring fuel consumption, identifying fuel savings opportunities, as well as tracking and reporting carbon emissions.

Currently, ETS Aviation’s fuel efficiency services are supporting more than 600 commercial jets across approximately 900,000 flights annually.

"With fuel costs accounting for as much as 40% of airline operating costs, reducing fuel consumption enables airlines to be more successful while reducing emissions."

Speaking on the move, Boeing Commercial Airplanes commercial aviation services senior vice-president Stan Deal said: "With fuel costs accounting for as much as 40% of airline operating costs, reducing fuel consumption enables airlines to be more successful while reducing emissions.

"Adding these fuel-efficiency tools enhances the edge we provide customers, helping airlines realise greater operating and environmental efficiencies."

Upon completion of the deal, ETS Aviation’s fuel-efficiency tools will become part of the integrated suite of aviation services, which are marketed as the Boeing Edge.

Subject to customary conditions, the transaction is expected to complete in the second quarter.
