A total of 6,951 flights have been cancelled in the US ahead of a severe snowstorm approaching the north-eastern part of the country.
It is reported that more than 2,000 flights within, into or from the US have been cancelled.

The US National Weather Service expects the storm to bring more than 3ft of snowfall to several parts of the north-east, including New York City and Boston as it moves up the coast. Philadelphia should get 14in to 18in.
FlightAware.com reported that various airlines cancelled 2,795 flights on Monday, 3,898 scheduled for today and 258 on Wednesday. The airports affected include New York, Boston, Baltimore, Washington, Philadelphia and Quebec.
Approximately 46 flights have been delayed and 55 flights have been cancelled on Monday at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. Oakland International Airport said there are currently no cancellations.
The last flight at Connecticut Airport left on Monday evening with most airlines cancelling operations Tuesday at the airport about 15 miles north of Hartford. Normal operations are expected to resume late Wednesday, authorities said.

By GlobalDataBoston Logan International Airport is expected to remain open with limited activity, but most airlines have cancelled flights from there as well. Connecticut airport has also suspended operations beginning from Tuesday with limited emergency services.
FlightAware CEO Daniel Baker was quoted by The Dallas Morning News as saying that: "Currently, 80%-90% of flights are cancelled at Boston, Philadelphia and New York airports, and we expect that number to rise close to 100%.
"For Wednesday, we expect that number to rise significantly (but not as high as Tuesday) once airlines can gauge how long the recovery effort will take."
Flights operating out of Philadelphia International Airport have also been cancelled. The airport said crews will continue to work for the duration of the storm to make sure it is fully ready when airlines restart normal operations.
Most major airlines are allowing customers to book new flights without paying a penalty.
