European plane manufacturer Airbus is behind competitor US-based Boeing in terms of aircraft orders in the first half of this year, ahead of the UK-based Farnborough Airshow next week.

Airbus secured 227 aircraft orders in total, and 183 after adjusting for cancellations.

Last month, the European firm sold 27 narrow-body aircraft, and received six cancellations or conversions.

On the other hand, Boeing sold 309 jets, or 276 after cancellations and conversions of models in the first half of this year.

Airbus has been affected by delays in delivering its latest jets due to issues with suppliers.

Last month, it handed more than three A350 aircraft, taking the total of long-haul jets in first-half of this year to 12. It had kept a target of at least 50 for the whole year.
