Mexico’s flag carrier Aeromexico has selected Panasonic Avionics Corporation as its global in-flight broadband Wi-Fi provider.

Under the deal, Panasonic will provide the in-flight internet service for nine of the airline’s new Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft fleet.

The development makes Aeromexico the first carrier in Latin America to offer in-flight broadband using Panasonic’s Ku-band satellite service, a global network exclusively dedicated to aviation.

Aeromexico CEO Andres Conesa said: "This exciting development underlines our commitment to provide the very best service to our customers with the very best technology, on board the best aircraft with the finest crew."

Aeromexico’s 787 jets will also feature a Panasonic’s in-flight entertainment system with 16in Elite high-definition Panasonic screens in first class and Eco Monitor touchscreens in the economy class cabin.

In addition, the fleet will offer a moving map application that provides real-time flight information; a Jukebox application for passengers to create a personalised playlist from the 1,500 songs featured in the system; and Panasonic’s SeatChat solution that allows passengers to use the IFE system to send messages to other travellers in the cabin.

Speaking about the development, Panasonic Avionics CEO Paul Margis said that the company is thrilled that Aeromexico has chosen Panasonic to provide such an exciting and strategic service.

"Their passengers can now expect an incredible entertainment experience and broadband Wi-Fi everywhere these aircraft fly," Margis said.
