The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) is set to begin the final construction phases of the new Terminal A at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) in the US.
Under the $2.7bn Terminal A Redevelopment Programme, the gates in the A1 Concourse of Terminal A will be shut from 30 September.

As part of the project, the A1 passenger gate area comprising six gates will be demolished.
Due to this, there will be a shift in flight operations, which could lead to an increase in wait times during peak hours.
In a statement, PANYNJ said: “As a result, Terminal A travellers are urged to arrive no later than two hours prior to scheduled departure times, in view of the temporary, six-month reduction in Terminal A gates.”
The new Terminal A, which is scheduled to commence operations in spring next year, will feature 21 gates.

By GlobalDataThere will be 12 more gates by the end of 2022, which will bring the overall gate count to 33.
The two airlines that will experience the direct impact due to the closures are Air Canada and JetBlue.
Both these airlines will shift flights to the other two gate areas of Terminal A.
In addition, JetBlue will move its flights to Terminal B in response to the shutdown.
Meanwhile, American, Alaska, and United Express will continue their operations as usual in the Terminal A2 and A3 concourses.
The project has been developed to replace the outdated 50-year-old Terminal A with a new terminal covering a one-million-square-feet area.
As part of the project, a new six-level, 3,000-car parking garage and a centralised car rental facility are also being constructed.
Furthermore, PANYNJ is working to replace the outdated EWR AirTrain with a new AirTrain.
In April, PANYNJ commenced an $84.2m rehabilitation project at Newark Liberty International Airport.
