Nasa has awarded the Kennedy Space Centre Propellants and Life Support Services (KPLSS) II contract to Amentum.

The contract is for support of Kennedy Space Centre Launch Operations.

As part of the award, Amentum will be responsible for producing liquid propellants, pressurants, chemicals and special fluids. It will also process and supply them for spaceport customers.

Additionally, it will provide life support services, project management and design engineering services. The life support services are intended for those customers who work in harmful or oxygen-deficient conditions.

The contract is expected to be effective from 1 October and Amentum will provide services at the Kennedy Space Centre, Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Patrick Air Force Base, and other government and commercial locations.

Amentum Mission Readiness Group executive vice-president and general manager Dr Karl Spinnenweber said: “Amentum is pleased to be selected by Nasa to play a key role supporting operational requirements for the 200 launches scheduled at the spaceport over the next decade.

With a maximum potential value of $165m, the KPLSS II is a fixed-price, indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contract. It has a total performance period of ten years and supports mission requirements, including maintenance and engineering.
