Lyon–Saint Exupéry Airport (LYS) in France, a VINCI Airports innovation centre of excellence, has announced plans to introduce the new Smart Welcome solution for passengers.

The solution, which offers a ‘phygital’ welcome to passengers, will be accessible via a digital platform through QR codes positioned in the terminals.

These QR codes are available on the large totems placed at strategic points in the airport.

Through this digital platform, passengers will be able to access extensive information and services from their smartphones and opt for physical assistance.

The solution will provide answers to passengers’ questions by means of content that will adjust according to their location.

If needed, the travellers can also contact a ground agent who will come to assist them.

Additionally, the Smart Welcome concept provides information related to shops, location of a car rental company, train station or airline counter and the entertainment services available for passengers.

Several tests will be conducted over the upcoming months to improve the functionality of the solution. This will include directing travellers to points of interest such as lounges and shops or recommended commercial offers.

During the second half of the year, the airport will work in partnership with the present brands to develop the reservation and ordering of products, as well as services within its premises.

Last week, VINCI Airports and British airline EasyJet announced two new routes connecting Toulon Hyères Airport (TLN) to Paris Charles-de-Gaulle (CDG) in France and London Gatwick (LGW) in the UK.

Var-based TLN will operate flights to CDG four times a week and twice a week to London Gatwick. These new routes will provide access to several international connections.
