A Leonardo and Siemens partnership has won a €96m baggage handling systems maintenance contract for Italy’s Rome Fiumicino Intercontinental Airport and Rome Ciampino International Airport.
In the contract, Leonardo’s and Siemens’ shares would be 84% and 16% respectively. The contract is initially valid for four years and includes an option to it extend for a further four years.

Under the contract, the companies will offer maintenance and technical management of all baggage handling systems at both airports, which are managed by Aeroporti di Roma (ADR).
Alongside technical management, the contract includes preventive and corrective maintenance of each baggage handling system.
In order to effectively adapt to changes in service requests, the partners will also carry out evaluative maintenance work for technological updates of each system.
Under the agreement, the partners will be responsible for maintenance of the IT component that manages the plants, the sorting allocation computer (SAC), and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA).

By GlobalDataDuring the past two years, Leonardo has won contracts for the implementation and service of baggage handling systems for airports in Zurich, Geneva, Paris Orly, Lyon, Mulhouse. This is in addition to international airports in Kuwait City, as well as other Middle Eastern and Asian regions.
In an earlier collaboration with ADR, Leonardo concluded an upgrade programme for the complete baggage handling chain at the Fiumicino and Ciampino airports.
For this work, Leonardo supplied two new large BHS systems at Rome Fiumicino. The first was for flights of the Alitalia and the SkyTeam alliance carriers. The second was for all other carriers.
