The $2.85m project commenced late January after receiving approval from the Board of Airport Commissioners.

LAWA CEO Justin Erbacci said: “Since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, Los Angeles World Airports has focused on utilising the reduction in air traffic to expedite and find efficiencies in construction and repair programmes, and the full reconstruction of Taxilane C9 is one example of how we’ve strategically used this time to create a long-term benefit to our airport.

“Thanks to strong relationships with our airline partners and thoughtful planning and implementation by our construction and operations teams, we were able to deliver this project ahead of schedule and with limited disruption to our operations.”

The replacement work was executed by Sully-Miller Contracting Co, who replaced a 60ft-wide section of the 882ft-long taxi lane. The new concrete segment is 19in thick and has around eight inches of new base material.

The taxi lane reopened on 9 February, more than a week ahead of the expected completion date of 19 February.

In a separate development, ADB SAFEGATE recently deployed its Safedock Advanced Visual Docking Guidance Systems (A-VDGS) and SafeControl Apron Management solution at the new Salt Lake City International Airport.

The ADB SAFEGATE solution will offer secure, accurate automated docking and a more efficient apron operation to airlines.
