The new Terminal One at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) has partnered with K2 Security Screening to construct advanced passenger screening checkpoint at the airport’s new Terminal One.  

The new checkpoint will incorporate Computed Tomography (CT) X-ray scanners (CT X-ray) scanners to produce three-dimensional images, streamlining the baggage check process and minimising physical contact.

This technology allows passengers to pass through security more swiftly without compromising safety measures. 

K2, which is based in Bethesda, Maryland, will also deploy enhanced Advanced Imaging Technology (eAIT) will further expedite the screening process.  

Utilising millimetre wave technology, eAIT can detect objects concealed in clothing, enabling simultaneous screening of multiple travellers. 

Additionally, the checkpoint will feature Credential Authentication Technology (CAT), which will verify passengers’ identification credentials and flag those needing extra screening.

The new Terminal One CEO Jennifer Aument said: “The New Terminal One is committed to delivering the highest standards of safety and unmatched convenience for passengers. 

“Developing our new state-of-the-art security checkpoint with industry experts K2 will provide travellers with the safest, most efficient experience.” 

The New Terminal One is central to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s $19bn transformation of JFK Airport.  

This project aims to establish a “world-class” gateway by 2030, featuring new terminals, modernised facilities, improved transportation links, and a simplified roadway network. 

Phase A of The New Terminal One is expected to open in 2026 with 14 widebody aircraft gates. 

Upon its full completion in 2030, the terminal will span 2.6 million square feet and offer 23 gates designed to accommodate over 16 million passengers annually. 

The new Terminal One and K2 are collaborating with the Transportation Security Administration and technology companies including Analogic, Rohde & Schwarz, CEIA, and Leidos on the checkpoint’s design. 

K2 Security Screening Group president Kathy Yurkunas said: “K2 is eager to collaborate with the JFK New Terminal One team on this pivotal project. We are excited to contribute to developing a world-class security checkpoint.” 

Last month, JFK International Airport started construction on an array of 13,000 solar panels on the roof of its new Terminal One building.
