The work will be carried out from 9:30am to 6pm from Monday to Saturday, except on national holidays and Sundays.

During this period, the runway will be shut for operation, with air carriers required to operate their flights outside these hours.

The 2,450m-long and 45m-wide concrete runway was launched to traffic in May 2006.

MIA is said to be the first airport in the state to have two runways, and also the first to have a rigid pavement or concrete runway.

This project will see MIA asphalt or blacktop the runway to comply with the regulator’s standards.

The recarpeting works aim to enhance the micro and macro texture of the runway.

Besides, the project scope includes the deployment of runway centreline lights to support aircraft landing during the night and in low visibility.

The project will also see improvements to the runway end safety area (RESA).

MIA will continue to serve all domestic as well as international destinations during the work.
