Airport operator Houston Airport System has incorporated Amadeus Flow technology at the George Bush Intercontinental (IAH) and William P Hobby (HOU) airports to offer a strong self-service experience for travellers.

The new technology will help passengers flying from HOU Airport and IAH terminals A and D at various steps, from check-in to boarding, without any interaction with agents or paper documents.

Houston Airports chief technology officer Darryl Daniel said: “Advanced technology equates to shorter lines, greater efficiency and a vastly improved passenger experience.

“Using this innovative technology allows us to make the airport journey more seamless, touchless and intuitive, and is of great value for our passengers, air carriers and airport partners.”

The airport operator noted that Amadeus’ technology will lead to quicker and simpler journeys by replacing paperwork or interaction with agents with biometrics, where a passenger’s face becomes their boarding pass and passport.

For this transformation, the airport operator will upgrade from legacy on-site IT to Amadeus’ flexible Cloud infrastructure.

With this transition, Houston Airports can simplify how airlines link to biometric check-in desks, bag drops and boarding gates.

The transformation will see the installation of new check-in kiosks, auto bag drop units and e-boarding gates, which will be driven by Amadeus technology.

Amadeus Americas airport IT senior vice-president Betros Wakim said: “By placing the passenger’s entire end-to-end experience at the heart of its strategy, Houston Airports is applying new technology that puts Houston at the forefront of the industry.

“We’re pleased to help Houston Airports deliver on its vision for a simple and intuitive passenger experience, with flexible technology that automates services and drives efficiencies, benefiting airlines and their passengers.”

Houston Airport said that the initial phase of the passenger processing transformation is currently underway.
