Godrej & Boyce unit Godrej Aerospace has won a Rs2bn ($30m) contract from Rolls-Royce to build various aero engine components.

Under the five-year contract, Godrej will manufacture around 600 different parts, including unison rings, complex fabrication and external brackets for Rolls-Royce civil aerospace engines.

In addition, the company will invest Rs500m ($7m) in a new facility in Mumbai, India, called Centre of Excellence that aims to further improve aero engine manufacturing capabilities.

Set to manufacture the parts for Rolls-Royce, the facility will be equipped with various equipment that can produce sheet metal brackets.

“In addition to meeting various requirements of aircraft manufacturers, the facility can cater to the delivery and testing of special processes in aerospace applications.”

Godrej & Boyce chairman and managing director Jamshyd Godrej was quoted by Press Trust of India as saying: “Godrej Aerospace has served the domestic aerospace programme for close to three decades.

“We have an integrated facility meeting diverse demanding requirements of fabrication, machining, assembly and testing with all associated capabilities for special processes in aerospace applications.”

Godrej Aerospace executive vice-president and business head S M Vaidya told thehindubusinessline.com that the Mumbai facility is capable of producing 40,000 complex brackets a year.

Vaidya further added that the partnership with Rolls-Royce is expected to help the company save its costs.

Initially, the site aims to produce 20,000 complex brackets annually.

In addition to meeting various requirements of aircraft manufacturers, the facility can cater to the delivery and testing of special processes in aerospace applications.
