Indian low-cost carrier GoAir has selected Pratt & Whitney GTF engines to power 72 A320neo family aircraft ordered by the airline in 2017.

Under this agreement, Pratt & Whitney will also deliver long-term EngineWise Comprehensive service for GoAir.

The airline is expected to take delivery of the second batch of 72 aircraft in 2021.

With the deal being finalised, GoAir’s firm order book for the aircraft type has now reached 144, including the initial batch of 72 units ordered in 2012.

The carrier currently operates a fleet of 38 A320neo aircraft, which are powered by the GTF engine.

GoAir managing director Jeh Wadia said: “We are pleased to partner with Pratt & Whitney once again for our next batch of 72 Airbus A320neo aircraft.

The new aircraft are expected to expand the operator’s domestic and international routes offering and connectivity in the region.

Pratt & Whitney’s GTF engine started operating in 2016 and is capable of decreasing fuel consumption by 16% and nitrogen oxide emissions by 50% compared with the regulatory standard.

The engine also reduces noise levels by 75%.
