United Arab Emirates’ national carrier Etihad Airways has signed an agreement with Boeing for various crew management solutions to support the planning and operation of its 7,500 crew members.

As part of the deal, Etihad Airways will integrate Boeing’s crew pairing, rostering and fatigue risk management solutions to lower expenses and maximise planning and crew satisfaction.

The solutions, which are powered by Boeing AnalytX, will be offered through Boeing subsidiary Jeppesen.

The crew pairing platform is designed to help airlines generate optimised work duties and improve crew efficiency and operational robustness, as well as reducing cost.

Crew rostering enables airlines to build quality rosters that respect crews’ preferences and relevant constraints while minimising total costs and time to market.

“Airlines that use these services often see cost reductions of 3% or more annually and a significant uptake in crew satisfaction over their rosters.”

The fatigue risk management solutions are supported by the Boeing alertness model. They offer strategies and solutions to reduce fatigue risk in crew rosters.

Boeing Commercial Sales and Marketing senior vice-president Ihssane Mounir said: “Airlines that use these services often see cost reductions of 3% or more annually and a significant uptake in crew satisfaction over their rosters.

“By adding these tools to the Boeing flight operations services already in place today, Etihad will continue to drive positive change.

“The flexibility and strength of our optimisation in the crew management suite will allow Etihad to solve complex issues with ease and support their decision-making process with detailed quantifications of risk and costs.”

Last month, Boeing, through Jeppesen, announced that the interactive Jeppesen European visual flight rules (VFR) information would be available within the ForeFlight Mobile iOS-based app for the general and business aviation sector.

The Jeppesen VFR Manual data offers comprehensive European VFR flight information from more than 2,200 airports in 29 countries.
